Karelia UAS strategic focus area of WOOD CONSTRUCTION
Wood can be used in many types of buildings, from single-family homes to multi-story apartment buildings. Wood is suitable not only as a finish material but as a structural material, offering a cost-effective way to meet building code requirements for safety and performance.
Within the Karelia UAS strategic focus area of wood construction we concentrate on wood and wood-based fibre materials and their use in construction aiming also to promote industrial wood construction and new business opportunities. Wood construction is closely related to bioeconomy, which aims at an efficient use of renewable natural resources, improving energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint.
The base for the wood construction in Karelia University of Applied Sciences is the Degree Programme in Construction Engineering. The core competence in wood construction is applying construction engineering and construction physics into materials used in wood construction. Our experienced personnel consists of experts in timber engineering, wood technology, industrial design, HVAC engineering and international business.
